Movie's Over-Reviews?

We really liked it too, and thought it followed the book pretty closely. The one thing Nicki and I were unhappy with was Miss Manderly-the actress who played her did a good job, but she was much younger than Miss Manderly should have been. Her china set though, if anyone noticed, wasn't exactly like the set of Felicity's they retired, but it was close and was decorated with fruit.

Ben's breeches Felicity borrowed looked exactly like the AG retired set. My only other disappointment with the costuming was that Felicity didn't have any simple dresses, which doesn't give a lot of hope for her work dress coming back. (The mom wore one almost exactly like it though!)

She did wear her work dress when she was in the kitchen toward the end when mother was sick. I recall someone saying they hadnt seen her in that outfit. And the blue and white dress with the apron looked near identical to the Town Fair gown. I think we may have another re-release on our hands [img]wink.gif[/img] If its close enough, I actually like that version-with the stays in the front-better than the 97' LE.

Overall I was very impressed. For about the first 15mins I was unsure as it all seemed kinda forced, but once it got into a flow I really enjoyed it. It was much better than the Samantha movie last year which I wasnt even able to finish. And Im really glad that scene of Lissie crying "run like the wind, penny, youre free" was left out [img]wink.gif[/img] I really like Marcia Gay Harden but her overly calm mannerisms got on mine and my ma's nerves at first, but then she seemed to loosen up a little and did well. The father was pretty good too. Not that this is their fault at all, but AG probably should have chose younger actors for the parents. Felicitys mother would have been in her late 20s and her father somewhere in his 30s. It was a little jarring to see colonial parents to little kids who were in their late 40s and 50s. Oh well, minor detail [img]wink.gif[/img] Overall, I was surprisingly impressed and really enjoyed it. I cant wait for the dvd.

So who else thinks Ben is HOT?? My ma was like, 'what a cutie!' and 'I want more! I want to Felicity and Ben get married!' Hahaha Speaking along those lines, who else was annoyed that Ben seemed a little interested in Annabelle at first?? How dare he!! Must have the been those low cut colonial gowns [img]wink.gif[/img]

I the only parts I did not like in the movie were when Nan acted like a brat "I hate Ben...." and a few other actions and remarks. granted,the Nan in the books was always more grown up acting and loved frilly things more than Felicity-but she never acted like a know it all and a smart mouth. And I agree Ben was cute! Anyone get the feeling that the close friendship between Felicity and Ben had a little warmth that could nicely develop into a courtship later on when Lissie was older? [img]wink.gif[/img] [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

Well, Diana and I loved it! I let her stay up and watch the whole movie even though it was way past her bed time!
At the end, here were her comments (age 5-1/2)
Momma, I liked that movie better than Samantha.
Momma, do you think Nan was a little smart- alecky?
Momma, who were those black people at Grandpa's funeral?
Momma, can I have a dress like Felicity?

And a horse like Penny?

Ok, so since it was late, I told her we'd have to talk about all those questions tomorrow!

Overall, I really liked the movie, even more so than the Samantha movie. And I'm glad the movie mostly focused on Felicity and her family life and not so much on Elizabeth. The only thing I really thought was a little too syrupy-sweet was the Christmas dinner at the end with the Patriots/Loyalists all getting together. Was that in the books? I can't remember. Not sure that would have happened in the real days and for sure not to last after the war began.

Slightly disappointed that they didn't show the Noah's Ark set being played with and the naming of Baby Polly, but that part of the storyline was different from the book anyway.

Overall, A++++ from us!

I watched with my 2 girls last night, and we all give it a thumbs up! I'm so glad the kids liked it. My 8 year old DD has very few things on her Christmas list- she's a very content kid (my 10 year old has a list a mile long). Now my 8 year old has added The Felicity Movie to her list, so there's at least one thing I can look for for her.

My whole family really enjoyed the movie. My husband watched with us and he said it's nice to see a wholesome movie that a family can enjoy togther. I loved Felicity red-head personality. My 14DD started crying when Felicity was praying that her Mom would get well. Very touching.

I think we can all agree that it was a movie that we would not have to hit the off remote button because of something that was inappropriate for our children to see.That usually does not happen after 8:00 pm

Of course, it was a great movie, but I didn't enjoy a whole lot. Did anyone else think it was kind of dry? It seems like they had more talking than action going on.
